21st Century Flâneurs

I will be showing at the Orinda Library's wonderful gallery during the month of July!  A good friend and fellow painter, Joanne Taeuffer will be joining me for a fresh show entitled ...

As you can see, we both paint in different styles and bring our individual points of view to our work.  Joanne often seeks out quirkiness and bold color while I tend to look for beauty and calm.....I raised three boys so I wonder why I need calm in my life!

PS - the impressionist flâneur  was someone who strolled through the modern world and observed and recorded that world.  We hope also to be such passionate spectators of the everyday!

Orinda Books Reception

The group of women that I paint with had a reception on Saturday celebrating our new show "The Herd Instinct".

It was a nice event and the store was also sponsoring a pet adoption that same day.  So there were kittens and puppies to enjoy!

Hope you can stop by to enjoy our artwork and the wonderful books at Orinda Books!

The show will be open until the end of the month of October.

A New Show

The Herd Instinct

The Bay Area Studio Artist (BASA) will present “The Herd Instinct,” an exhibit of paintings in acrylics and oils, at Orinda Books, 276 Village Square, Orinda, during the month of October. You are invited to a reception from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 6th.
“The Herd Instinct” explores the urge to gather with others of your own kind - whether it’s a migrating pod of whales, cows grazing in the pasture or jellyfish just floating through life. We have included everything from a peep of chickens to a mob of sheep to a loveliness of ladybugs. And, we’ve even noticed that inanimate objects seem to have a herd instinct so we’ve included an array of apples.
In addition to our BASA artists, Suzun Almquist, Jeanette Crawford Baird, Ellen Reintjes, Joanne Taeuffer, Sharon Tama, and Marcy Wheeler, we are joined by two guest artist, Lassie Colebourn and Ruth Stanton.

Unplugged Reception

Sunday was my reception for my Solo show "Unplugged".

If you have been following my art blog for a while, then you know that I have been working around the clock to get in my One Hundred Faces finished for the show!

I did it - even though it involved me bringing 6 on my family trip to Montana & Idaho.

Don't feel too sorry for me as this was my little painting area - a gazebo on the cabin grounds right on the Snake River!

And here all all One Hundred Faces hung on a special system that my husband designed so that the panels would hang flat and individual panels could be sold and replaced by a new panel.

A few shots from the rest of the show and the reception.

I was most happy to have my mom come to support me - she even brought a basket of homemade Biscotti cookies that disappeared in no time!

Ahh....now I can relax.....ooops.....no I can't!  We are having a wedding in our backyard in one month!  So I am off to plant some flowers.

And I couldn't be happier!

Art Show Reception

Sunday afternoon a group of women that I paint with "Bay Area Studio Artists" had a reception for a new show at Orinda Books. It's always fun to see how a new show "hangs" and get together with other painters and friends.

This show was based on summer and water, which we have a shortage of in California this year!

Marcy made a Lemonade Stand poster for out front and we had yummy homemade cookies, fresh fruit, iced tea and of course - Lemonade!

It is always an interesting time spent with this talented group of women!

L - R: Ellen Reintjes, Sharon Tama, Susan Bonebakker, Jeanette Crawford Baird, Joanne Taeuffer, Marcy Wheeler and Suzun Almquist.  Click on their names to see their painting website!

And BASA - Bay Area Studio Artists website is here!

My thanks to all who joined us.
